Lumberjacks lose at home.....Bulldogs win their sixth straight, Jr. Eagles their 7th straight

As the Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League winds down the final chapter of the 2025-26 regular season, many issues remain to be decided.  For example with limited games remaining, first place finishes in either division have yet to be clinched while other teams such as the Windsor Oxen continue to try and go above the .500 mark.  In action Saturday:

East Hants   4      South Shore   1

Just when it appeared as if the South Shore Lumberjacks were prepared to take a strong run at the Capstone Colts for first in the Fred Fox Division, they ran into an arch-nemesis known as the East Hants Penguins at home in Bridgewater and lost 4-1 to leave them 6 points behind the Colts and now with only 3 games in hand.  Meanwhile with the win, the Penguins closed to within two points of the Lumberjacks for second place.

The Pens and Lumberjacks were tied at 0-0 after the opening period Saturday night before the Penguins Hayden Tamm put his club up 1-0 after forty minutes.  The Penguins then began the third in a strong fashion scoring three consecutive goals, the first by Jayson Hanson a mere 25 seconds into the final period.  Chris Caissie then scored his 22nd and 23rd goals of the season for East Hants to put them up 4-0 before recently acquired Jack Piper scored the lone Lumberjacks goal with 5:31 remaining in regulation.  Piper was playing only his fourth game since being acquired from Brookfield in a trade.  East Hants outshot the South Shore 33-24 and are now 17-7-2 for 36 points compared to the Lumberjacks 19-5-0 record.  The Lumberjacks are back in action Monday evening when they travel to Sackville for a 7:30 game against the 8-15-1 Blazers.

Eskasoni   4    Jr. Miners   2

The Jr. Eagles recorded their 18th win of the season 4-2 over the Jr. Miners.  The Jr. Eagles are now 18-7-0 for 36 points and five ahead of the second place Antigonish Jr. Bulldogs in the Sid Rowe Division.  The Bulldogs are 15-8-1 for 31 points.  Tyson LeFrense scored twice for the Jr. Eagles including the lone goal of the second period which put the Eagles up 2-1 going into the third.  LeFrense then made it 3-1 before Marcellus Francis put Eskasoni three up.  Alex MaDonald scored the final goal of the game for the Jr. Miners who are now 4-20-2 on the season.  The Jr. Eagles outshot the Jr. Miners 34-29.  The win which was a gritty affair and saw 135 minutes in penalties handed out, 115 of those coming in the second period. For Eskasoni it marked their 7th consecutive victory and fifth consecutive win over the Jr. Miners this season with one game remaining between the two clubs.  In the five games, the Jr. Miners have been outscored 29-15 by the first place Jr. Eagles.

Windsor    3     Brookfield   2

The Oxen have been trying valiantly to climb past the .500 mark but after losing Friday night in Lantz, needed a win Saturday afternoon to get back to .500, which they did by edging the Brookfield Elks 3-2.  The Oxen are now 12-12-3 on the season, 10 points ahead of fifth place Sackville and nine points behind the third place Penguins.

Wilson Davison scored his 14th of the season to put the Oxen up 1-0 after the opening period before Jake Kuryluk and Nowlan Fowler made it 3-0 Windsor after forty minutes.  The Elks connected for a pair in the third from Bryson Currie and Brady Croft notched the second goal for the Elks with only 45 seconds remaining in regulation.  Davison now has four goals in his past 4 games.  The Oxen outshot the now 3-21-1 Elks 45-31.

Antigonish   6      Port Hawkesbury   1

The Jr. Bulldogs stayed within five points of the first place Jr. Eagles in the Rowe Division after cruising to their win before a home audience.  The Bulldogs went up 3-1 after one on goals from Owen Chisholm, Logan McGrath and Kevin Walker.  That was all the scoring for Antigonish until the third when Luc Legere netted a pair and Owen Forsythe connected.  All three were power-play goals.  The lone Strait goal came in the opening period off the stick of Cadyn Power.  It marked the Bulldogs 6th consecutive win as they outshot the Strait Pirates 40-25.
