Andrews scores in OT as Colts rally from 4-2 deficit...to take 2-0 lead in Championship Series

The Eskasoni Jr. Eagles thought they might be able to tie their Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League Championship Series Easter Sunday afternoon in Shearwater, but, despite holding a 4-2 lead with 8:21 to play in regulation, lost 5-4 in overtime to the Capstone Colts as the Colts took a 2-0 lead in the Best-of-Seven series.

Noah MacPherson scored the game tying goal for the Colts with only 1:23 to play in regulation before Liam Andrews scored his 13th of the playoffs and second of the game with 4:01 elapsed in the ten-minute sudden death overtime to give the Colts the win.  Andrews leads the league in playoff scoring with the 13 goals and 13 assists in 12 playoff games while finishing second in the regular season scoring race, 2 points behind eventual champion Lane Lochead of the Pictou County Scotians.  Lochead had 60 points and Andrews 58 that included 25 goals.

Marcellus Francis scored on the power-play in the opening period to put the Jr. Eagles up 1-0 after twenty minutes.  Andrews then tied it for the Colts and Jacob Trioni-Willis put the home team up 2-1 before Keegan O’Neill scored his 11th of the playoffs with 1:46 to play in the second to tie the game at 2-2.

Pierce Hutchings and Zander Billard put Eskasoni up 4-2 before Connor Malana made it 4-3 and McPherson’s tying goal with 1:23 left in regulation, setting the stage for Andrews overtime winner.

The Colts outshot the Jr. Eagles 51-46 with Will Cole turning away 42 of 46 shots for the winners and Andrew Burke 46 of 51 for the Jr. Eagles.  Brandt Whitelaw, Cooper Puma and Sam Ryan all collected two assists for the Colts while Kendrick Marshall had 3 helpers for the Colts and Francis with his goal also chipped in with a pair of assists.

Games 3 and 4 in this Championship series will be played in Eskasoni Friday evening at 7:30 and Saturday April 11th at 3:00 p.m.  If a fifth game is required, it will be played in Shearwater Friday, April 17th at 7:30 p.m.
