Colts surprise Lumberjacks--Jr. Miners score three short-handed goals

Colts surprise Lumberjacks--Jr. Miners score three short-handed goals

Hockey Executives, officials, fans, players and fans will indicate to you at anytime during season how hard it is to figure out what happens from night in particular games.

Take for example in Bridgewater Sunday night:

Colts   11       Lumberjacks   3

The 9-0-0 Lumberjacks had just defeated the Capstone Colts in a hard fought game Oct 25th by a score of 4-2.  The Lumberjacks were seeking their 10th consecutive win of the season Saturday night in Bridgewater but hold on for a minute.  The Colts improved to 7-3-0 on the season as they hammered the Lumberjacks 11-3.  The Colts built up an early 4-1 lead after twenty minutes 4-1 and sailed from there to their victory.  Cody Garcin tallied three times for the Colts while Cooper Puma and Finn Merritt both scored twice with Liam Andrews adding a goal and three assists.  Other Colt goal scorers were Jacob Trioni-Willis, Connor MacPhee and Grayson Boutherette.  The Colts outshot the Lumberjacks who fell to 9-1-0 44-27.  Goal scorers for the Lumberjacks were Brennan Coleman’s power-play goal, Marcus Tench and the always hustling Leo MacLean.  Keegan Greencorn was not playing up to his usual spectacular self and was removed from the game after 39.47, having allowed 7 goals on 28 shots.  He was replaced by Jacob Koziel for the remaining 20.13 and he allowed 3 goals on 16 shots.  The Colts will host the Scotians Friday, Nov 7th at 7:30 p.m. while the South Shore trails to Pictou tonight for a 6:00 p.m. game with the County Scotians.

Jr. Miners   12       Brookfield   3

Another bizarre game at the Membertou Sport and Wellness Centre Saturday evening as the Jr. Miners scored 9 unanswered goals to flatten the Brookfield Elks 12-3.  The Elks were coming off a 5-3 win over the Windsor Oxen despite being outshot 58-25 in Windsor Friday night and coming into their game with the Jr. Miners, the Elks were hopeful they could win their second in a row after snapping their six-game losing streak Friday in Windsor,

However such was not to be the case as the teams battled to a 3-3 draw after one period before the Jr. Miners took absolute control in the final two periods.  The Elks had plenty of chances as they rifled 58 shots at Jr. Miners goalie Manny Strong but to no avail as Strong held them to a pair of goals from Cale McClellan and 1 from Anthony Pitts.  In the second period, the roof collapsed on the Elks who started Bob Henderson in nets as their was no sign from Logan Wallace who played so strongly in Windsor Friday night.  To make matters worse for the Elks, the Jr. Miners scored three of their 6 goals short-handed from Tyler Seymour, Landon Clarke and Ty Oliver.  Other goals in the second for the Jr. Miners were tallied by Landon Clarke with his second of the game, Brady Doucette and Ayden Ball.  Brady Matheson scored all 3 of Josh goals in the third period for the Jr. Miners.  In the opening period, Tyler Seymour notched two in first period and Alexander MacDonald added the third from the Jr, Miners.  After the Elk went in front 2-0 in the first period, a sudden surge of energy went through the Jr. Miners as they picked up play noticeably and went on for their win.  Next action for the Jr. Miners will be in East Hants Friday, Nov 7th at 7:30 as they tangle wit the Penguins.  The Elks will be back at home for a game with the Lumberjacks Saturday Nov 8th at 4:00 p.m.
